Project Eclipse- The Future of Agricorp 2022
The production of ginger in Nigeria has been gradually increasing and is produced predominantly in Northern Nigeria, especially in the state of Kaduna. According to Tridge, Nigeria produces approximately 37K metric tons of fresh ginger annually. Out of this number, 10 percent is consumed fresh locally, while 90% is consumed in its dried form. About 20% of the dried ginger is consumed locally for various uses, while the remaining 80% is exported.
Through our engagements with the community, we have created direct jobs for over 100 women processors in Southern Kaduna. We have worked and aggregated products from over 4,000 smallholder farmers and currently on track to aggregate from over 10,000 in the 2020/21 farming season. Our mandate is to create wealth for the community and ensure that the livelihoods of farmers increase, the quota of women involved in these processes increase, and involvement of the youth is paramount in creating sustainability.
To achieve this massive feat and together with our community, we are commissioning our Project Eclipse. This project will build the biggest ginger processing system available in Africa. Our goal is to complete the project by June 30, 2022. This facility will allow us (in partnership with Kwoi Economic Forum) process in excess of 20,000MT of ginger every year. It will serve as an off-take platform for over 50,000 smallholder ginger farmers in Southern Kaduna. And it will increase the livelihoods of farmers by over 40%.
